The contract has been awarded to the start-up Noetra, which has received a start-up grant from the Japanese government of 387.3 billion yen, or about SEK 23 billion. Noetra will, among other things, build a large-scale data centre.
Noetra is backed by several major Japanese companies such as SoftBank, Toyota's Preferred Networks and NEC. The company aims to have its own AI model by March 2027.
Our goal is to build a genuine third option - one that Japan and others can choose, says Noetra CEO Hironobu Tamb in an interview.
Japan has long been a prominent manufacturer of robotic systems.
