The car bomb made Ranucci's house near Rome shake, writes the Italian newspaper. The journalist and his daughter were at home at the time, but no one was injured. Another car and a neighboring house were damaged.
(The bomb) could have killed a person who was passing by at that moment, says Ranucci to La Repubblica.
Sigfrido Ranucci, who for several years has led an investigative news program on Italian TV, has also previously been subjected to threats and harassment. In 2021, he was placed under police protection due to the Italian mafia 'Ndrangheta's plans to murder him.
Italy is ranked 49th on Reporters Without Borders' press freedom index.
"Journalists who investigate organized crime and corruption are systematically threatened and sometimes subjected to physical violence for their investigative work", the organization wrote in its latest update.
