The dissolution is taking place ahead of the fall elections. The Knesset is now on summer recess and will not formally reconvene until after the elections on October 27, writes The Times of Israel.
Over the past week, several controversial laws have been passed in marathon parliamentary sessions, in what is being described as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ruling coalition's last chance to push through its policies. Among other things, the Knesset has decided to pause measures against ultra-Orthodox conscientious objectors and curtail the powers of the country's state prosecutor.
Ahead of the election, polls show rising support for opposition parties led by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and former commander Gadi Eisenkot.
