Israel's military reports that a militant representative of the Islamist Hezbollah movement was the target of an air raid. The attack was carried out despite the prevailing ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
The attack took place in Nabatieh, according to the Israeli air force, which added that a named person within Hezbollah was killed in the attack. Later on Tuesday, the Israeli military announced that further attacks had been directed against suspected Hezbollah members.
Israel has repeatedly attacked targets in southern Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Shia militia has strong footholds.
At the same time, the US announced that it wants to intensify efforts to reach a solution to the recurring clashes in the area. Envoy Morgan Ortagus says that a "political solution" is being sought to the dispute concerning the border between Israel and Lebanon.
Ortagus, who is formally the US Deputy Envoy to the Middle East, expresses the view in an interview with the Lebanese TV channel al-Jadeed. She adds that the border agreement between the two countries is complicated.
It contains 13 points, I believe that six points are already problematic, she says.
As a "gesture", Israel has released five Lebanese citizens who were imprisoned in the country, according to the office of Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
