The opposition in Israel did not get enough votes to take the first step towards dissolving the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. The proposal was voted down with the vote count 61–53, reports The Times of Israel.

That the proposal was not voted through means that the opposition cannot present a proposal to dissolve parliament again until in six months.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition currently holds 68 of 120 seats in parliament.

The opposition leaders were summoned on Wednesday morning to coordinate measures and try to get a vote on dissolving the Knesset, reported the Israeli public service channel Kan.
