The Israeli forces will act "with intense force" in areas in northern Gaza, which the army's spokesperson Avichay Adraee points out on a map published on social media.
The inhabitants are recommended to move to the area of al-Mawasi further south, which Israel has said will be a safe zone. As recently as on Saturday, however, three children and their families were killed in an attack on a tent camp there.
In total, at least 72 people were killed on Saturday in Gaza, according to Hamas-controlled health authorities.
Among the fatalities are, in addition to the families in al-Mawasi, also twelve people who were killed in an attack on a sports arena, where displaced Palestinians had sought shelter, and eight people in an apartment building in Gaza City.
Israel's military states on Telegram that Hamas leader Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, who had a central role in planning and carrying out the terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, was killed in an attack in Gaza City on Friday.
