In the city of Fasa, 780 kilometers south of Tehran, a crowd has attacked the provincial governor's office, smashing parts of the exterior, starting fires and throwing stones, reports the state-affiliated news agency Nour News.
Footage on social media shows security forces firing, and there are reports of casualties, Bloomberg reports. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reports that three police officers were injured, but denies reports of deaths.
The Iranian protests, which are directed against the country's poor economy and have gathered thousands of demonstrators in several parts of the country, are "understandable" according to the country's attorney general, who at the same time issued a warning.
"Any attempt to turn economic protests into a tool for insecurity, destruction of public property or implementation of externally designed scenarios will inevitably be met with a legal, proportionate and decisive response," he said in state media.
The warning comes as Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, urges demonstrators to continue protesting. On its Persian-language X account, Mossad writes:
“Take to the streets together. The time has come. We are with you. Not just from a distance or through words. We are also with you on the ground.”
