According to a statement from the military, the tunnels were used by the terrorist group Hezbollah. They were planned and financed with the help of Iran, according to Israel.

Several units from the army and military intelligence are now working to secure the tunnel system and consolidate control over the area, which has been described as a “terror hub.”

“The network consists of several tunnels built to accommodate hundreds of terrorists at once in several rooms prepared for extended stays and terrorist activity, including housing, water and electricity infrastructure, as well as extensive anti-tank and air-defense capabilities,” the military said.
