Israel announced on Sunday "tactical" local pauses in the fighting, promised to open safe routes for aid and urged humanitarian groups to increase food distribution.
"Over 120 trucks were collected and distributed yesterday by the UN and international organizations," writes the unit within Israel's Ministry of Defense responsible for civilian affairs in Gaza (Cogat), on X
According to the post, an additional 180 trucks have entered Gaza and are waiting for collection and distribution.
But the Hamas government claims that only 73 trucks with humanitarian aid arrived on Sunday. "Most of them have been plundered and stolen under the occupation's and its drones' watchful eyes, under its clear desire to prevent them from reaching distribution warehouses," Hamas states.
To meet the needs in Gaza, which has over 2 million inhabitants, it is estimated that aid equivalent to approximately 500-600 truckloads is needed daily.
Aside from the delivered truckloads, Israel, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates have also dropped emergency aid from the air over Gaza.
In recent weeks, the UN has warned of a life-threatening famine in Gaza, and international pressure for a ceasefire to enable aid efforts has increased.
