The increase, which corresponds to approximately 122 billion Swedish kronor, is motivated by the country's "security challenges".
The idea is that the increased economic scope will enable the Ministry of Defence to make "urgent and important procurement agreements that are crucial for national security", the ministry announced in a statement according to Reuters.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich states that the new budget will cover the battles in Gaza as well as "comprehensive security preparations for all threats – from the south, north and more distant arenas".
