Israeli and Lebanese delegations chose to end talks on the relationship between the two countries on Thursday – but decided on a new round of talks to begin on December 19.
Among the Israeli demands is the complete disarmament of the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said after the talks that they had been "positive", and was supported by the country's Information Minister Paul Morcos.
It is natural that the first round of talks will not be very productive - but it has paved the way for new talks, Morcos said after a government meeting on Thursday.
According to the Lebanese government, the talks are important to avoid "a second war".
Israel would like to see increased cooperation with Lebanon, according to representatives of the Israeli delegation – but first the demand regarding Hezbollah's future must be resolved.
The meeting was held at the same time as the Israeli military first ordered the evacuation of four Lebanese communities. The newspaper L'Orient-Le Jour then reported that an Israeli warplane bombed Mahrouna in the Tyr district of southern Lebanon. There were also reports of bombings against Nabatiyya and Naqura.
According to Israel, the attacks are directed at suspected Hezbollah targets.
