The Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva has been hit, report Israeli media. Major material damage can be seen in images being spread. A number of people are reported to have been injured, but there is still no information about fatalities.
At the same time, violent explosions are heard in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, reports AFP, and there are also reports of injuries there. Attacks on Jerusalem, which both sides consider holy, are unusual.
In total, it was a comprehensive wave of attacks with over 25 rockets, according to Haaretz. Just over half an hour after the first warning, the danger was declared over.
Southwest of Tehran
Israel, in turn, has launched new airstrikes against Tehran during the night, and also warned that a nuclear facility in Khondab would be attacked. In the morning, Iranian state television reported that the attack had begun. But it is emphasized that people in the area, which is located about 25 miles southwest of Tehran, had been evacuated and that there is no risk of radiation.
It concerns a site where Iran previously built parts of a research reactor for heavy water. The Israeli military published the warning on X, with a satellite image of the facility that has been known as Arak.
Heavy water reactors can be used for nuclear power, but they also produce plutonium, which, like enriched uranium, can be used to manufacture atomic bombs. The construction of the reactor was halted in 2015, according to the then-current nuclear agreement between Iran and Western powers. Iran has, however, announced plans to start using the reactor again in 2026.
Over 600 dead
Shortly after midnight local time, air raid sirens were also heard in several places in Israel, due to Iranian rocket and drone attacks. According to the Israeli military, four Iranian rockets were shot down, reports Haaretz. Two more rockets appear to have landed outside Israel, according to the military.
The US-based human rights group HRA, which has long followed the development in Iran, reports that at least 639 people have been killed and over 1,300 injured since Friday. 263 of the dead have been identified as civilians.
In Israel, there is a lack of fresh figures on casualties, but several dozen people have lost their lives since the country started the war against Iran last week.
