On Friday evening and until Saturday evening, the Israelis celebrated Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

"During the Yom Kippur weekend, the Israeli air force attacked around 280 terrorist targets belonging to Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Among these targets were underground infrastructure, weapons depots, military command centers, and terrorist cells", writes the Israeli military in a statement on Saturday evening.

According to Lebanese media, a market in the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon was hit by an Israeli attack on Saturday evening. It is not yet known if anyone was killed or injured in the attack.

According to Israel, the Shia Muslim militia Hezbollah has fired around 320 projectiles towards Israel over the past 24 hours.

On Saturday, the Israeli military also ordered the evacuation of over 20 villages in southern Lebanon, villages that have been targets of attacks recently. Several of them have already been emptied of their local population.

Israel says that the evacuations are necessary for the safety of the inhabitants. According to Israel, Hezbollah uses the villages to hide weapons and to launch rockets towards Israel.
