Alexander Isak will forever be etched in Newcastle's history books. When the club took its first title in 70 years, the Swede scored the decisive goal.
It's fantastic. The club has been waiting for this for 70 years and it feels completely incredible, says Isak to Viaplay.
But it could have been two goals.
First, Isak had a goal disallowed for offside, when he held himself forward on a rebound. A decision he himself had difficulty accepting, which he clearly emphasized to the referee.
Scored a minute later
But it wouldn't take long before he scored "again", and this time no one could stop the Swede's goal celebration.
In the 53rd minute, the Swede gave Newcastle a 2-0 lead. A goal that would prove to be the decisive one.
Jacob Murphy nodded down a cross to Isak, who stood unmarked at the penalty spot, and could score 2-0 in front of a boiling Wembley.
The 25-year-old was then substituted out in the 81st minute, to standing ovations from the Newcastle supporters. Emil Krafth also got to play a few minutes, when he was substituted in in the 90th minute.
First in 70 years
Newcastle won the league cup final with 2-1 and thus took home their first title since 1955, when they won the FA Cup.
It means everything. I've been in this club for a few years now, created relationships, and I think these players deserve this. And the supporters, they've been fantastic, says Isak.
The 1-0 goal was scored by full-back Dan Burn, who was unexpectedly called up to the English national team recently.
For Liverpool's part, the nightmare week was thus completed. In just five days, two title dreams have gone up in smoke, after the team was eliminated from the Champions League against PSG on Tuesday.
