After just 37 minutes in the match against Japan, the centre-back was forced to leave the group-stage match in Arlington, Texas. Afterwards, he was seen being wheeled away on crutches. During the night of Saturday Swedish time, the Swedish national team management announced that the 27-year-old was leaving the World Cup. On Saturday evening, Hien opened up about his feelings on Instagram.

"Thank you to all the Swedish fans out there who have supported us since day one - you are incredible. Big thanks to the guys on the team and everyone in and around the national team for the best experience you can have as a footballer," he writes.

According to the Swedish Football Association, Hien suffered an injury to the back of his thigh, which will keep him away from football "for some time."

Hien ends his post with "Forward Sweden! I'll be back".

Sweden plays France in the World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday, with kick-off at 11:00 PM.
