Mahdieh Esfandiari, accused of "encouraging terrorism" in France, has now been transferred to the Iranian embassy in Paris, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to Araghchi, she will “hopefully” return to Iran when her trial is over.
Mahdieh Esfandiari, 40, had lived in France for seven years when she was arrested in February. She is accused of inciting terrorism on social media, as well as racial hatred and “criminal conspiracy” online.
Esfandiari's transfer to the Iranian embassy comes hours after the French couple Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris were released from Tehran's notorious Evin prison after over three years.
The couple are part of a growing group of Europeans who have been imprisoned in Iran in recent years, in what several European governments describe as a deliberate Iranian strategy aimed at extracting concessions from the West.
Among foreign prisoners in Iranian prisons is Swedish citizen Ahmadreza Djalali, who has been sentenced to death for alleged espionage.
