“Give me a couple of hours,” X product manager Nikita Bier wrote in a post on Friday in response to a request by an X user to update the Iranian flag emoji.
On Saturday, the Islamic regime's coat of arms was gone. Instead, the emoji, which, among other things, the official account of Iran's Foreign Ministry uses in its name, depicted the sword-wielding lion and sun.
The flag, which also features green, white and red, was the country's official flag before the Shah was overthrown in 1979. It has become a symbol of the fight against the Islamic regime among many exiled Iranians.
