This is reported by Iranian state-controlled Press TV, which also publishes the letter in its entirety in English.
The president writes that Iran has always, throughout its “proud history,” distinguished between governments and the people they rule. It is a “deeply rooted principle in Iranian culture and collective consciousness.”
“For this reason, portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical realities nor with contemporary observable facts,” he writes.
Pezeshkian claims through rhetorical questions that the US is running Israel's errands and that by "inventing an Iranian threat" Israel wants to divert focus from "crimes against the Palestinians."
“Exactly what interests of the American people does this war actually serve? Was there any objective threat from Iran that justified such behavior?” he writes, wondering whether “massacres of innocent children,” attacks on healthcare facilities, and boasts about bombing Iran “back to the Stone Age” serve any purpose other than to damage America’s global standing.
The letter comes on the same day that US President Donald Trump claimed that new leaders in Iran had asked him for a ceasefire.
It is also published a few hours before Trump’s speech to the nation about the war, which will be held at 3 a.m. on Thursday, local time in Sweden.
