According to the chairman, Mehdi Taj, the move has been approved by the international football federation FIFA, which has not yet made any official comment.
The new base is in Tijuana, Mexico, located on the border with the United States. The Iranian Football Federation claims that the move - the team was originally supposed to be based in Tucson, Arizona - reduces the risk of visa problems because the country's players will enter the United States from Mexico and not from Iran.
Iran plays in Group G in the World Cup and will face New Zealand in their first match in Inglewood, California on June 15.
In March, US President Donald Trump described Iran's participation in the World Cup as "inappropriate," but changed his mind just over a month later after FIFA President Gianni Infantino insisted that Iran would participate as planned.
"Well, if Gianni said so, I'm okay with it. Let them play," Trump said at a press conference in April when asked about the FIFA base's comment.
