The three executed men were accused of collaborating with Israel's intelligence service Mossad. They are alleged to have smuggled equipment used in a murder, according to Iran's judiciary.
It concerns three named individuals – but not the Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali who has been imprisoned in Iran since 2016, also sentenced to death for spying for Israel.
At the NATO summit in The Hague, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) says he spoke with an unnamed prime minister about Djalali's situation.
I also brought it up with another European prime minister who I believe has the prerequisites to speak for us in relation to Iran.
I have been very careful to protect Djalali's interests in a very, very difficult situation, he continues.
The three individuals are reported to have been hanged in the city of Urmia on Wednesday, a day after Iran and Israel agreed to initiate a ceasefire.
The regime in Tehran has promised swift trials against individuals accused of collaborating with Israel during the war between the two countries. Several alleged Mossad agents were also executed on Sunday and Monday.
