Iran will boycott the draw for the World Cup in Washington on December 5. The decision comes after the US denied visas to several members of the Iranian delegation.

"We have informed FIFA (International Football Association Board) that the decisions taken have nothing to do with sports and that the members of the Iranian delegation will not participate in the World Cup draw," a spokesman for the Iranian Football Federation told state television.

According to media reports in Iran, chairman Mehdi Taj, national team captain Amir Ghalenoei and seven other employees of the federation have not been granted visas.

In June, US President Donald Trump imposed an entry ban on citizens from twelve countries, including Iran.

Ahead of this summer's World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, Trump has also announced that it will be faster for World Cup visitors to obtain visas to the United States through a so-called "FIFA passport."

"We will do the same review as today, but the difference is that you are ahead of the line," said the country's Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier in November.

Iran, with Swedish-born Saman Ghoddos on the team, qualified for the World Cup back in March.

The World Cup will be played from June 11 to July 19.
