It was the bad weather that caused the helicopter crash in northwestern Iran in May, when, among others, the country's president Ebrahim Raisi and foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were killed, according to Iran's final investigation into the accident.
The fog was thick when the presidential entourage was on its way home from the country's border to Azerbaijan, where they had been to inaugurate a newly built dam. After the plane crashed, it took several hours to locate and reach the accident site.
In August, the news agency Fars, controlled by the country's powerful Revolutionary Guard, reported that the crash was caused partly by the weather but also because two extra passengers, in violation of safety protocols, were on the helicopter. However, Iran's defense forces quickly denied the reports.
