A sixth round of negotiations between the US and Iran is to be held on Sunday in the Omani capital of Muscat, announced Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in a statement.
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday, however, that the talks would take place already on Thursday. A source familiar with the preparations said, however, that they were more likely to take place on Friday or Saturday.
The latest round of negotiations between the two countries ended on May 23 without major success.
The talks, in which the countries are trying to hammer out a new agreement on Iran's nuclear energy program, are the first since a previous agreement between Iran and the Western world from 2015 collapsed in 2018, during Trump's first term in office.
On the scales is, among other things, the imposition of sanctions on Iran, provided that the country reduces its nuclear ambitions.
