“During a trip to Muscat, the first meeting of the Joint Hormuz Committee was held,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi writes on X.

Another burning issue in the negotiations has been Iranian assets frozen abroad. On Monday, President Masoud Pezeshkian said that $6 billion, equivalent to just over SEK 58 billion, of the assets had been released by Qatar, the state news agency Irna reported.

That is half of the $12 billion that, according to Iranian media, will be released and returned to Iran.

Continued conversations

Iran and the United States have returned to their ceasefire "for the time being," a US source told Axios on Sunday.

Talks on the nuclear energy issue were supposed to be held in Switzerland on Tuesday, but according to information provided to Axios, the talks will instead focus primarily on the situation around the Strait of Hormuz and will be held in Doha.

The information that the US and Iran have agreed not to attack each other has also come from sources to several other media outlets. However, the AFP news agency's source does not want to confirm the information that the so-called technical talks will be held in Doha.

The White House has not commented on the information.

Accusing each other

Iran and the United States have accused each other of violating the agreed ceasefire signed on June 15.

Iran has continued to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz, which has been a cause of the conflict flaring up several times, most recently on Sunday when the US Central Command announced that it had attacked ten Iranian military targets due to "Iran's continued aggression against merchant shipping."

Iran said it responded with attacks on US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The Strait of Hormuz includes Omani and Iranian territorial waters, but under international rules, the countries generally cannot block passage or levy tariffs.
