In an email to Radiosporten, the IOC states that flags and other symbols linked to Russia will be banned during the Olympics in Italy next month. That also applies to spectators.
This means there will be no repeat of this weekend's scenes from the final stage of the cross-country skiing Tour de Ski - which took place in the Olympic resort of Val di Fiemme. There, a number of fans stood at the top of Alpe Cermis, where the skiers crossed the finish line, waving Russian flags.
Russian Savelij Korosteljov, who competes with neutral status, was delighted with the support, while Swedish national team member Edvin Anger thought it felt strange to see the Russian flag.
"It's special when there's a war and suddenly they're here," Anger said.
Earlier this winter, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the International Ski and Snowboard Federation's (FIS) decision to exclude Russian and Belarusian athletes.
That ban has existed since Russia began its offensive war against Ukraine in early 2022.
