Neglected security flaws allowed the jewel thieves at the Louvre to make off with the loot just 30 seconds before they would have been stopped by security guards.

This is shown by a study commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture.

Only one of two security cameras at the crime scene was working, security guards were unable to follow what was happening in real time, and the police were sent to the wrong location.

The investigation also shows that the poor security had been noted earlier. As early as 2019, experts at the jewelry company Van Cleef & Arpels noted that the balcony where the thieves would break in six years later could be reached with a folding ladder.

The Ministry of Culture's security advisor Guy Tubiana says he is "speechless".

It was a series of errors that led to the disaster but I could never have imagined that the Louvre could have so many.
