"According to the subsequent medical assessment, the midfielder will not be available for either Saturday's match against Switzerland or Tuesday's meeting with Slovenia and will therefore leave the squad to continue his rehabilitation in his club environment," the Swedish Football Association writes on its website.
New national team captain Graham Potter is currently choosing not to call up a replacement for the Eintracht Frankfurt player, who suffered an injury during Tuesday's training.
Blue and yellow face Switzerland in Geneva on Saturday and then conclude the World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia in Solna on Tuesday. Sweden is bottom of the group with just one point.
