The industrial complex Sverdlov in the Russian region of Nizhny Novgorod has been hit by what is described as an unusually extensive drone attack during the night, according to a source in the Ukrainian security service SBU.
The facility, located about 75 miles from the Ukrainian border, manufactures military explosives. It is one of the largest in the country and is under sanctions from the US and EU. From the Ukrainian side, no information is provided on whether the attack caused any damage that could affect the facility's production capacity.
Local media report explosions in the area, but Russian officials claim that the attack was repelled. Several firefighters are said to have suffered minor injuries from shrapnel during the attacks.
100 drones
From Russia, it is further reported that drone attacks were repelled in the western Kursk region. In total, over 100 Ukrainian drones are said to have been shot down during the night, according to Russia.
Nighttime attacks have also been directed in the opposite direction, with Russian airstrikes resulting in 17 injuries in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine.
"Tonight, the enemy attacked Kryvyi Rih and destroyed parts of an administrative building, damaged residential buildings and vehicles," the rescue service writes in a post on Telegram.
During the work of extinguishing the fires, new attacks followed, in which a firefighter is said to have been injured.
Attack in Sumy
Russia is also said to have attacked a power plant in the Sumy region in northern Ukraine, according to the regional power grid operator.
"More than 37,000 customers in the Sumy region are temporarily without electricity," the operator writes on Telegram.
President Volodymyr Zelensky writes in a post on X that Russia has attacked Ukraine with over 20 rockets, 800 precision-guided aerial bombs, and more than 500 attack drones in just the past week. In the post, he appeals for increased support and more air defense from Western allies.
