Ingrid Lindblad Eyes Chevron Championship Win After LA Triumph

Ingrid Lindblad is coming to the Chevron Championship as a fresh winner in top form. In this year's first major, the goal is set on winning again. Why not? says the woman from Halland.

The young Swedish golf stars who have made a breakthrough on the world scene in recent years have something self-evident about them. Fearless and with strong self-confidence, without being particularly cocky.

And they deliver results directly.

Ludvig Åberg is the brightest star, of course. But on the women's side, there are several. Maja Stark and Linn Grant checked off their first wins on the LPGA tour early on, and now Ingrid Lindblad, born in 2000 and a year younger, has gone the same way.

Already in her third start on the LPGA tour.

It's been quite a lot of fuss since I won and I don't really know if it's sunk in yet. Everyone comes up this week and congratulates me on the win, even those who don't usually talk to me, says Ingrid Lindblad.

"Pretty cool"

Sunday's win in Los Angeles made her more than 5 million kronor richer, but there hasn't been time for any major celebration. Instead, she was waiting for an early morning flight to Texas. She had many congratulatory messages to read along the way, from both unknown and Annika Sörenstam.

Now Ingrid Lindblad is on site at The Club at Carlton Woods a few miles north of Houston, where this year's first major is being played.

Lindblad was the first player to hold a press conference and she's still sitting in the press tent when she does the video interview with TT.

That it's been a few hectic days she can live with.

That I get to do media now in the morning was not because I played badly, but for a good reason. It's pretty cool to beat so many big names as I did last week. But I haven't had time to see a single golf hole here yet, says Lindblad.

Offensive play

Before the Chevron Championship begins on Thursday, she expects to have played the entire course, which is hosting the major for the third year in a row.

And when the tournament starts, the focus is clear: Offensive play, hunting for new birdies – and in the best case, a new win.

Lindblad was the world's top amateur before turning pro last year and has become a frequent winner during her five college years in Louisiana.

We've talked about it, that if you play well, you shouldn't slow down and start thinking "now I can afford a bogey". Instead, keep playing well.

I said I wanted to win on the LPGA tour before the season, it feels like it was the big goal for the year. Now I have to set up another goal, but I don't know exactly what yet.

Win a major perhaps?

Yes, says Ingrid Lindblad and laughs.
