On Thursday, the trial against Gjert Ingebrigtsen, athletics coach and father of Jakob Ingebrigtsen, which has been ongoing since March 24, was concluded.
It was then clear that the Norwegian running star, one of the plaintiffs, had been deeply affected by the legal process.
When both the plaintiff's side and the defense had spoken in the courtroom in Sandnes, Jakob Ingebrigtsen asked to speak. At the same time, VG a text by Ingebrigtsen, with the headline "I dag sätter vi streck".
There has been enormous media pressure around the trial, he says and continues:
For me and my siblings, the legal proceedings in Sandnes have had major, disturbing consequences. Regardless of the verdict.
Ingebrigtsen, who among other things has taken Olympic Games and World Championship gold on 5,000 meters, then broadened the perspective.
Many children experience similar challenges as we have described. Many have it worse. I sincerely hope that these are not forgotten when the cameras are turned off here in the court.
Gjert Ingebrigtsen is charged with assaulting two of his children, his son Jakob and his daughter, when they were minors. He denies the crime.
The prosecutor is demanding two and a half years in prison for the father. The plaintiff's assistant believes that Gjert should pay 400,000 Norwegian kronor to Jakob and his sister.
The verdict is expected to fall on June 16.
