Inflation in the eurozone fell from 2.2 percent in August to 1.8 percent in September, according to preliminary figures from Eurostat.
Not least, the continued fall in energy prices is contributing to the decline. After a year-on-year decline of 3 percent for the energy sector in August, the decline in September was 6 percent.
For individual countries, inflation in Germany fell from 2 percent in August to 1.8 in September, and in France from 2.2 to 1.5.
The lowest inflation rates in September were reported from Ireland with 0.2 percent and Lithuania with 0.4, while Belgium was highest at 4.5 percent, according to Eurostat.
