Finnish media have reported in recent days on the ship INS Tamal, a frigate manufactured by Russia and recently launched in Kaliningrad.

Some details about the frigate, the defense will not comment on, but they are following it closely.

It's not an ordinary guest in our waters, notes Marie Tisäter.

According to Hufvudstadsbladet the frigate was on Friday inside Finnish territorial waters. On Saturday, it has been located in the Gulf of Bothnia in what is called the Swedish economic zone, which extends outside Swedish territorial waters – and where it is allowed to pass.

We have no suspicion of any illegal activity, says Tisäter.

What they believe it is doing, she cannot comment on.

That ships are passing by is not unusual. That it is Indian is what is unusual in this context.

According to the Defense Forces, the frigate currently appears to be heading south again.
