At least 34 people have died in floods and landslides in the Indian state of Assam, reports BBC.
Both the military and air force have been called in to assist in the relief efforts and news agency AP reports that more than 300,000 people have so far been evacuated from their homes.
Assam in northeastern India has a large river network and according to the state's responsible minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the coming days may be "critical" when the rain is expected to continue.
Both landslides and floods are common in India during the monsoon months of June to September.
