International and local media picked up on Elis Lundholm's selection and followed up by writing about the 23-year-old from Värmdö after the first moguls qualification in Livigno.
"Swedish skier becomes first transsexual Winter Olympian" was one of many headlines that appeared.
It was also reported that NBC's commentators used the wrong pronoun during the broadcast earlier this week.
In addition, the Swedish Olympic Committee has been inundated with interview requests, but the answer has been the same to everyone. Elis Lundholm is happy to be herself and to compete at the Olympics.
“Included”
Lundholm, who identifies as a man but competes as a woman, hasn't cared about that.
"I don't know... It's part of being here," he says after the missed moguls final. The next competition will be parallel moguls on Saturday.
Many people here want you as a poster child (for LGBTQ+), how do you feel about that?
"Some people try... They do what they want and I do my thing," he says.
You're not interested in that kind of thing?
No.
"I want everyone to be able to be themselves and do what they want to do."
Closed Instagram
After the Olympic selection, Elis Lundholm chose to shut down Instagram, not because there had been a lot of comments, but as a preventive measure.
Before the qualifying round, the mogul skier changed his mind and was mostly met with warm support.
"There have been some bad comments here and there, but for the most part I've received a lot of nice comments. I've received a lot of love and support," he told Aftonbladet earlier this week.
Elis Lundholm was selected for the Swedish Olympic team under the 'future' criteria and finished in 25th place in qualifying. His best result in the World Cup is 18th place.
