The largest immigrant groups in 2024
The largest immigrant group in 2024 came from Ukraine, with 28,065 people, a significant increase from 606 people the year before. In second place were people born in Sweden who returned after a period abroad (11,907 people). Other large groups were immigrants from India (5,801), Germany (3,647), and China (3,558).
Notable changes compared to 2023
Indian immigration decreased by 22.4%, from 7,480 to 5,801 people. Polish immigration fell by 35.9%, while Russian immigration increased by 35.5%. Afghan immigration decreased significantly by 43.6%.
Regional distribution of immigration Immigration is highest in Sweden's three most populous counties:
- Stockholm County: 37,006 people
- Västra Götaland County: 18,394 people
- Skåne County: 17,993 people
The counties with the lowest immigration were Gotland County (516 people) and Jämtland County (1,006 people).
