The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on the night of Friday via Truth Social that tariffs for certain countries on medicines, trucks, furniture, as well as kitchen and bathroom furnishings will be increased, as a pressure to increase domestic production.
"We will introduce 50-percent tariffs on all kitchen doors, bathroom furniture and related products, starting on October 1, 2025. In addition, we will charge a 30 percent tariff on upholstered furniture," Trump writes.
For Ikea, the United States is one of the most important markets, the company has sold furniture in the country for 40 years. The announcement of increased tariffs may cause problems.
"Our goal is always to offer furniture at affordable prices, and our experience says that tariffs like these make it more difficult. The tariffs have an impact on our operations, just like they do for other companies. We are constantly evaluating the situation, but our goal is that the impact on our prices will be minimal," Ikea writes in an email to TT and continues:
"We can guarantee that Ikea will continue to have affordable prices).
According to Reuters, the United States is Ikea's second largest market, and almost all Ikea products are imported to the United States from Asia or Europe.
