It was at the entrance to the match that the tifo group was stopped from bringing in a so-called overhead flag. It was part of a planned protest against what the supporter group Ultras Göteborg calls "the police circus of the past week".
"Never before has our association refused to let our stand material into the stand. IFK's security manager chooses to speculate about what the material could be used for as the reason for the decision. Without any grounds or evidence", writes Ultras Göteborg on
"Becomes a different level"
That's why large parts of the stand Kommandobryggan were empty when IFK Göteborg hunted important points in the battle for European Championship places. Many of the fans instead went to Götaplatsen in central Göteborg to protest.
It's extremely strange to play without them. I think we've handled it well anyway. But it's clear that it becomes a different level when they're here, said IFK's August Erlingmark to HBO Max after the first half.
And maybe the home team would have needed their usual support at Gamla Ullevi. Because despite dominant play from Blåvitt, it was Brommapojkarna who won. Ezekiel Alladoh scored the winning goal for BP when he rolled in 1–0 in the 56th minute.
Criticism of the police
IFK Göteborg confirms in a statement that they stopped the fans from bringing in a flag to the arena. The club writes that the tifo had not been announced.
"Before the match, a group was denied bringing in a so-called overhead flag as it was suspected that it would be used to hide masking. Masking is prohibited on Swedish elite football arenas", writes the club.
"No tifo has been announced to IFK Göteborg's SLO or other official in IFK Göteborg, which is otherwise a long-standing practice between the association and the tifo group."
It was on Friday that the police withdrew their newly introduced requirement – a requirement that several clubs have strongly criticized – that Allsvenskan football matches should be interrupted in case of organized masking in the stands.
