Latvia's goalie Kristers Gudlevskis made 45 saves. Sandis Vilmanis put two pucks into the empty net in the final period as the U.S. tried to catch up.
Later on Saturday night, Germany defeated Austria 6–2, keeping the United States' chance of reaching the quarterfinals alive.
