Protests are shaking Minneapolis after U.S. immigration police, ICE, once again opened fire in the city. President Donald Trump is threatening to deploy the military under the Insurrection Act if calm is not restored.

"If Minnesota's corrupt politicians do not follow the law and stop the professional agitators and rioters from attacking ICE patriots, who are just trying to do their jobs, I will invoke the Insurrection Act," Donald Trump posted on social media.

No evidence has been presented that the protesters are “professionals,” as Trump claims.

Anger is surging in the city after a man was shot in the leg by ICE agents on Wednesday - exactly one week after 37-year-old American mother of three, Renee Good, was shot dead by an ICE officer there. The incident has sparked strong reactions across the United States.

Now, two men attacked ICE agents with shovels during an operation in the city, CBS and other media outlets report .

One of the men was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital. Shortly afterward, new demonstrations broke out; according to NBC News, "an angry crowd" gathered in a residential area where police were stationed. The protesters reportedly temporarily blocked a road and threw snowballs at the police, who responded with stun grenades.

The Insurrection Act of 1807 gives a US president the power to deploy the military under certain circumstances to suppress riots or maintain law and order. It was used, among other things, during the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s, when schools were to be desegregated. Donald Trump has threatened to use the law several times in the past.

In Minneapolis, protesters and police have clashed several times in the past week, with tear gas used. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has promised “several hundred” additional federal agents to ensure ICE’s work.
