20-year-old Hugo Larsson will therefore miss the national team's match against Estonia in the Nations League tonight.
He is now returning to Germany and his club Eintracht Frankfurt to continue his rehabilitation there.
The Swedish Football Association writes that it was after a medical assessment on Saturday evening, after the last training session before the match, that it became clear that Hugo Larsson would not be able to play.
"It's clear that it's sad. I would have liked to help the team, but considering the injury I have, it's unfortunately not possible. I'm convinced that we'll take three points just like on Thursday", says Hugo Larsson in the press release.
The news comes after Larsson went out and criticized national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson over the lack of playing time.
It's clear that I'm extremely disappointed to come here and not get a single minute against Azerbaijan after the start I've had in Germany, he said to TT.
He also expressed irritation over the national team coach publicly stating the requirements he has for him.
I've told him that I would have liked it to stay between us. Some things should stay within the family, said Larsson.
National team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson has said that there is no rift between him and Hugo Larsson.
The national team meets Estonia at 20.45 at Strawberry Arena in Solna.
