Between mid-March and late August this year, at least 59 men were arbitrarily executed on politically motivated national security charges, Human Rights Watch wrote in a new report.

At least 29 of them had been arrested in connection with the anti-regime protests in the country in December 2025 and January this year.

The executions are illegal and violate international law, HRW writes, referring among other things to "confessions" forced through torture.

HRW is now demanding that UN member states act to hold those responsible accountable.

US President Donald Trump has previously said that the US will take action if Iran executes protesters.
