A lack of pollinators poses a threat to the food supply, among other things, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency said in a press release.
Proper management of areas around infrastructure can provide good habitats for bees, butterflies and hoverflies.
Places such as power line corridors, railway embankments, roadsides, industrial areas and motocross tracks can offer food and nesting sites for pollinators, says Ingrid Johansson-Horner, an administrator at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
In a nine-point plan, the agency proposes measures to protect pollinators, including environmental monitoring and preservation of open habitats.
