A drone launched by the Houthi movement in Yemen hit Ramon Airport outside Eilat in southern Israel on Sunday, according to Israel's military.

According to Israel, the Iran-backed Islamist movement fired four drones within a few minutes. Three of them were intercepted before they reached Israel. But one drone hit the arrival hall of the Israeli airport.

A 63-year-old man was injured by shrapnel and a 52-year-old woman was injured when she fell, both lightly, reports Haaretz.

That the Houthi rebels' rockets and drones actually reach Israel is unusual.

Most recently, it was the noted attack in May, when a ballistic rocket from Yemen hit near the large Ben Gurion airport outside Tel Aviv. This led to several airlines canceling their flights to and from the country for a long time.

Israel has responded by, among other things, attacking and destroying the airport in Yemen's Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa.

Two weeks ago, Israel also killed the rebel group's prime minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other leaders in an attack on the capital region.

The Houthi movement has promised revenge and in a statement from spokesperson Nasruddin Amer, Sunday's attack is described as part of it.

"The enemy's airports are insecure, and foreigners must leave them for their own safety", he writes in social media.
