Wednesday is a day of mourning in the entire Zaporizhzhya region due to the attack, announces its governor Ivan Fedorov.
Just a few days ago, up to ten people were killed in a similar attack on Zaporizhzhya. The major city is located in the region of the same name in southern Ukraine, and the war's front line runs just a few miles south along the Dnieper River.
The region is one of the four that Russia claimed to annex last year, despite only being partially occupied by invasion forces.
The intensified shelling in the area over the past few weeks has raised concerns about a new Russian offensive in the south. Ukraine's military warned a few weeks ago that such an offensive could be imminent, as it saw a buildup of Russian forces in the area.
Ukraine's forces are heavily pressured by advancing invasion forces in eastern Ukraine, as well as in the part of the Russian border region of Kursk where they still occupy Russian territory.
