The horses were lying 100-150 meters out in the lake. They had gone through the ice and it was basically only their heads that were sticking out, Henrik Persson, operations manager at the Söderåsen Rescue Service, told TV4 Nyheterna.
The rescue service sawed open the ice and made a water channel through which the horses could be led towards land. 25 people participated in the operation, which took two hours.
The horses are believed to have been in the four-meter-deep water for a couple of hours. Despite this, they were relatively well afterwards – and the Gustavsson family, who own the horses, were able to breathe a sigh of relief.
"Now it feels great," said 9-year-old Ester Gustavsson to HD the day after the intervention.
