The woman was found dead in her home in Nyfors, Eskilstuna on September 17 last year, when she failed to show up for work.
Three weeks later, her husband and his mother were arrested in a coordinated operation with Greek police. At the same time, the man's brother, sister, and brother-in-law were arrested in Södermanland.
On Wednesday, the husband, mother, and brother were charged with murder. The husband's sister and brother-in-law are charged with accessory to fact.
Attempted separation
"The investigation shows that the victim tried to divorce her husband for several years. During the actual weekend, the husband traveled from abroad, where he had been living for the past few years, to Eskilstuna and surveilled the victim together with several family members," says prosecutor Tobias Lindblom in the press release.
The whole thing is said to have culminated in the man attacking the woman in her home on September 15 and killing her by strangling or suffocating her, according to Lindblom.
"Overall, I believe that at least part of the motive for the act was to restore the family's honor," he says.
According to the indictment, it was the man's mother who gave direct instructions for the execution of the murder, and she participated, among other things, in the planning. The brother participated, according to the indictment, in mapping and reconnaissance of the woman in Eskilstuna and in removing evidence afterwards.
Two other persons are charged with gross shielding of a criminal, suspected of having assisted the husband in leaving Sweden and of destroying evidence.
Incitement
The mother is also charged with incitement to murder, suspected of having tried to persuade another man to kill the woman at some point between September 5 and 15.
The evidence includes, among other things, of interrogations but also a mapping of the contacts and movement patterns of those involved in Eskilstuna on the weekend when the murder took place.
"There is also a recorded conversation between the deceased's mother-in-law and the person she tried to instigate to murder the victim a few days before the murder was completed," says Tobias Lindblom.
All the accused deny the charges.
