The Toronto fans were tossed between hope and despair during the away game against Boston.
After a strong recovery, it still stood 4–3 to Boston at the end of the third period. Then, with 46 seconds of playing time left, Swedish Toronto forward Pontus Holmberg swept in. In a chaotic situation in front of the opponent's goal, he managed to chip the puck up in the air, over the Boston goalkeeper's shoulder and into the goal.
This meant equalizing to 4–4 and a second chance for the Canadians in overtime, which they took advantage of. Barely four minutes into overtime, Mitch Marner scored the decisive goal, and Toronto won 5–4.
Holmberg was praised by his teammate and two-goal scorer Marner, who called the Swede's goal a "strong goal".
And we didn't stop there. That's exactly what we want to see from our team, he says to reporters after the game.
His skill when he has the puck, when he gets passes and how well he works with the stick to keep people away or lift himself to a better position. It's impressive, says Marner about Holmberg.
Swede Oliver Ekman-Larsson contributed with two assists.
