There is almost no wind, resulting in low wind power production. At the same time, it is bitterly cold in large parts of the country, which increases consumption.
On Tuesday, electricity cost just over 2 kronor per kilowatt-hour across the country, according to prices from the previous day on the Nord Pool electricity exchange.
The last time prices were higher simultaneously throughout the country was at the beginning of January 2024. Electricity has been considerably more expensive before, but then only in the southern half of the country.
The fact that electricity prices have also risen in Norrland over the past month is partly explained by the new electricity cable between northern Sweden and Finland. Swedish-produced electricity flows to Finland, which currently has the highest electricity prices in Europe, and thus drives up prices on the Swedish side as well.
