At Andersbergsskolan, only three of the more than 250 children have Swedish as their mother tongue. The principal notes that language immersion is needed here.

Many highlight the school as an important part of the explanation for the positive development in the Halmstad district, which has now meant that it is no longer classified as a vulnerable area.

The municipality has provided extra resources that make it possible to have two qualified teachers in each class.

It's about perseverance, long-term thinking and focused work, says Principal Lotta Karlsson.

The results in the national test for third-grade students have been low, but the proportion of children with passes in all subtests in mathematics has increased from 20 to 48 percent between 2023 and 2025 and in Swedish as a second language from 25 to 40 percent.

The two-teacher system provides completely different conditions for organizing teaching to meet the students' needs.

There was a time when criminals left their mark on the area, says municipal police officer Stina Ljungdahl. She sees the fact that there is now a positive trend in crime development as a result of patient work that many different actors have done together.

"I think it's a strong value not to be categorized as a bad area. The preconceptions are dampened if you don't have that label," says Stina Ljungdahl.
