The argument between Team Niklas Edin and Canada escalated after the Swedes accused the Canadians of cheating at the Olympics, saying they touched their stones after they were released.
Canada's Marc Kennedy did not appreciate the Swedish protests and repeatedly told the Swedes, "fuck off".
Now Kennedy's teammate Ben Hebert says on the podcast "Big Show with Rusic & Rose" that he also handed a boot to Oskar Eriksson on the ice.
“He is a weasel”
"Luckily my mic was off, let's say. He got a taste."
"He's a weasel. He's an unreal player and it's a good thing he is, because he's a complete idiot and nobody likes him. But we just brush it off."
After beating Sweden in the final, Canada went all the way and took Olympic gold. Team Edin, the 2022 Olympic champions, finished second.
"We weren't going to put up with the bullying and the bullshit. We punched them in the face, that's what we did. We took first place and stood on the podium with the gold medal," says Hebert.
“I prefer to play clean”
Oskar Eriksson tells TT that he is not really surprised by Hebert's words.
"We are fully aware that he is like that. He can think what he wants. No one else has expressed himself like that, but I have only received positive feedback from all the other players who have come forward. I don't know if there is anyone outside of Canada who has supported the Canadian way of being."
Eriksson says the teams haven't spoken to each other since the fight.
"There has been no attempt to apologize, but they don't think they did anything wrong."
"I would much rather play fair and square, and lose or win that way, than break the rules and win. I've won an Olympic gold medal and now they've done it too. If they feel proud, they can do it."
Marc Kennedy received a verbal warning from the World Curling Federation over his remarks.
